What is Functional Psychiatry?

Functional psychiatry is a branch of functional medicine that aims to identify and treat the root causes of emotional illness, not just the symptoms.
​
While your physical and mental health may not always seem clearly related, the two are deeply connected.
​
Gut health issues for example, can impair the ability to adequately process nutrients from your diet or make all the neurotransmitters you need to feel your best.
​
Other common physical issues that can impact mental health may include:

At Kendred Wellness, our goal is to work toward identifying the root causes of illness, not symptoms. We do this through incorporating objective testing into our clinical assessment to create scientifically based treatment plans that are customized to you.

Our services are for individuals struggling with mental illness who are tired of ineffective treatments and the ‘one size fits all’ approach to mental health care. We provide personalized care for those who are ready to move beyond symptom management to attain a state of wellness.

We work with each person on an individual basis when formulating a care plan. Depending upon your unique mental health situation, the objective findings of lab results, and desired outcome of care, your plan may or may not include medication. There are many who wish to not use prescription medication. We embrace the use of several therapeutic modalities in all cases. Our goal is to treat you as the whole person you are by also addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Our Story
​Kendred Wellness is named after a special man, Kenny, who emulated integrity, accountability, and principle. He challenged those around him to be their best person. Our mission is to carry this challenge forward in our practice by providing meaningful, honest psychiatric care to you and your family.

Kendred Wellness was brought to life through the desire to reach the thousands of individuals and families who have limited access to mental health professionals, as well as healthcare in general. It has been our dream to provide accessible, reliable, and compassionate healthcare to those who experience barriers to care related to location, lack of available services, and inadequate or no insurance. The purpose of Kendred Wellness is to help eliminate or reduce these barriers to care.

For this reason, we are excited to offer tele-psychiatric and additional tele-healthcare services throughout the state of Colorado. Our hope is that we can reach those of you who might not otherwise have access to care.

Family Nurse Practitioner - BC
A board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse with the primary role of assessing, diagnosing and treating the mental health needs of patients. PMHNPs prescribe medications and provide therapy for patients who have mental health disorders or substance abuse problems. At Kendred, our integrated approach addresses the underlying cause of disease using a patient-centered approach encompassing the whole person, rather than the traditional disease-centered approach of an isolated set of symptoms.

With a broad range of knowledge encompassing allopathic and alternative medicine, Dr. Beam is bringing both worlds together to offer integrated psychiatric care. The focus of Kendred Wellness is to treat common conditions, such as depression and anxiety, in an uncommon integrated way.

Cost
We understand there are many people who do not have health insurance. For this reason, we have made every attempt to keep our prices affordable. In addition, health insurance promotes a sick care model rather than a model that encourages health. At Kendred Wellness, we are interested in finding the root cause of disease rather than just treating the symptoms. Insurance companies do not pay for most of these specialized, integrative services. So, at this time, we are not accepting insurance.
